A Week in Sunny Puerto Rico

Spend a week in sunny Puerto Rico! This destination is a great winter get-away or a fun trip any time of the year! The bonus is that it is like being in a foreign country, while still technically being in the USA. Here is a suggested itinerary for a week vacation stay.

Stay at the award winning Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort. Address: 6000 Boulevard Río Mar, Río Grande, 00745, Puerto Rico

Hang out on the beach, or the pool, take hotel grounds tours (see the iguanas and local wildlife) and play games on the resort (including giant chess and bocce ball).

Next, drive to picturesque Old San Juan, admire the architecture, take a walking tour, visit art galleries, museums and browse the shops, restaurants and cafes. Our favorite was Chocobar Cortés (everything chocolate).

Climb to the top of The San Juan National Historic Site including the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo San Cristóbal, most of the city walls, la Puerta de San Juan, and the Fort San Juan de la Cruz. Enjoy seeing the giant cruise ships from above.

Take a hike on the La Coca Trail to the La Coca Falls. Now it really feels like an adventure!

Be aware that Puerto Rico has no-see-ums or mee mees as they are called there. You can’t see them, but they are everywhere and they make you very itchy. This means that you need to wear bug replent in addition to sunscreen at all times. Avon SKIN-SO-SOFT Bug Guard PLUS IR3535® Insect Repellent Moisturizing Lotion – SPF 30 Gentle Breeze combines DEET-free repelent and sunscreen in one. However, if you wish to use them seperately put the sunscreen on first. Enjoy your week in Sunny Puerto Rico!
