1234 Library St., Detroit, MI 48226
The Z is the “coolest. parking garage. ever…” a public art mural, with 130 paintings by 27 international and local artists. The Lot and its adjoining alley, known as the Belt, is a great place in Detroit to enjoy a wealth of edgy, fun, and colorful art on all floors. The top floor offers great views of downtown and the sports stadiums. It is only a short walk to Comerica park and a number of nightlife destinations, including the People Mover, and the QLINE. This unique parking garage is named after its shape. If you were to look down from above you’d see a Z connecting Broadway and Library Street. The Z-lot has an air pump, LED lighting inside and out, window washing stations, 24/7 security and electric vehicle parking/charging stations.
Can we talk about the Belt again? Located under The Z and stretching from E. Grand River to Gratiot is a redefined art alley with twinkling lights and modern music. The Belt Alley also has pop up bars. Make your walk worthwhile by meandering through The Belt on your way to your destination. Make the most of your parking spot and visit NoJo Kicks and the Vault of Midnight or try out some unique restaurants like 7 Greens. Now you can grab a drink and an easy chair at Punch Bowl Social, located at the base of the Z Deck.
If you want to park at the Z, you’ll swipe your credit card on the way in and swipe on the way out to pay. No ticket needed.
The Z weekday rates are $3 for every 20 minutes, with a maximum rate of $20 per day. Between 4:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m., rates are $10.
Or, if you want to see the art without parking there, you can walk up for free, so it’s a good choice if you’re on a budget.
At The Z, if you are getting your parking validated, they will give you a QR code to scan when exiting the parking garage! (For example, Citizen Yoga nearby will validate if you take a class there
“Ten levels and each level is covered in art by artists from around the world. Fun place to take pictures! You drive through the lot and once you get to the top it’s open air with full views of the city of Detroit. Just amazing. Imagine going to Detroit just for the parking! This garage will make that happen.”
